Our Towns and Villages

"This is a uniquely beautiful, historic and precious place. Our towns and villages sit in a stunning and important natural landscape. Our villages have ancient and historic roots and identities. Our market towns - Sevenoaks, Swanley and Westerham - have all the potential to be the best places to live in 21st Century Britain.

Sevenoaks and Swanley deserves an MP who will fight for it."

Tara has loved Sevenoaks and the local area ever since she was at school here as a teenager. Her family have lived in and around Sevenoaks for years, and her mother was a student nurse here. Tara enjoyed formative years here - acting on stage at The Stag Theatre, running in Knole Park - and her own children are now at school in Sevenoaks.

Tara has been building support locally, and has personally spoken with over 500 voters across the constituency to hear about their priorities, problems and aspirations. Many people have told her they feel let down and they want change.

Our town centres and high streets are under pressure. There are great opportunities to support them to thrive and succeed, such as the proposal for a Business Improvement District for Sevenoaks being considered by our Lib Dem-run Town Council. Ultimately we need national policy to change to support our high streets better.

Tara has been campaigning every week in the Hextable district council by-election, and has spoken with many voters in Swanley and its neighbouring villages. Across this area of the constituency, residents face years of poorly planned Conservative-led housing growth, such as at Pedham Place. They want a greater say and need better community infrastructure to go with new development.

Many who voted for the Conservatives in the 2024 General Election say they did so reluctantly, and they want a positive alternative to Reform UK at the next election. This is our opportunity.

Every village in the constituency has its own history and character. From West Kingsdown to Shoreham, Otford to Chipstead, and Sundridge to Ide Hill, each tells its own story. The jewel in the crown - the Darent River and Valley - is a precious part of our natural landscape. It not only joins many of our villages, but is an incredibly rare chalk stream. Residents want an MP who loves rural and village life and who wants to protect it for future generations - rightly so.
